Music licensing for advertising and brand campaigns

Get music that works with the cut and the media plan. From curated tracks to a rights-checked licence, Audio Motion Music helps advertising teams find the right soundtrack and understand what they need to clear.

Rights, timing, fees and deliverables depend on the recording, rights holders and your final usage. Private catalogue access requires approval.

ADVERTISING / CHOOSE YOUR ROUTE

Know what you are buying before the edit is locked

The route changes what you ask for, what can be delivered and which rights must be checked.

Find suitable catalogue music

You need the mood, energy and editable versions. Ask for a creative shortlist, availability and the relevant licence scope. A track preview is not a licence.

Clear a specific existing song

The creative relies on one named recording. Prepare the exact master, brand, cut-downs, territories, dates and planned media so master and publishing terms can be requested.

Commission bespoke composition

The edit needs custom pacing, brand identity, lyrics or musical transitions. Agree deliverables, ownership, revisions, usage, stems and any third-party inputs in writing.

Every recording and production has different terms. AMM does not claim ownership of third-party songs shown in screen credits; rights are confirmed case by case.

Two routes, two different briefs

Do you need to find the soundtrack or clear a particular song?

Find music for a campaign

You have a film, message and budget, but no final recording. Start with creative search, a shortlist and practical licence availability.

Use a known hit

The director or client has chosen a specific song and version. That becomes a recording and composition clearance request, not an ordinary library search.

Create something original

When edit points, sonic identity or rights needs are highly specific, commissioning original music may suit the brief better than searching an existing catalogue.

What we need from an advertising music brief

  1. The film and its intention. Rough cut or storyboard, product, audience, pacing, emotional target and musical references. References describe the creative direction, not permission to use those recordings.
  2. The media plan. TV, CTV, cinema, paid social, YouTube, paid digital, point-of-sale, events or other placements. Define usage instead of assuming one licence covers everything.
  3. The versions. Hero film, 60/30/15/6-second edits, vertical formats, alternate territories, cut-downs, instrumental versions or stems.
  4. Territories, term and budget. Countries, campaign start/end dates, requested exclusivity, category conflicts, indicative music fee and decision deadline.
  5. Approval and delivery. Brand and agency stakeholders, clearance dependencies, master formats and whether music must be editable through finishing.

Illustrative brief: A 30-second luxury travel campaign needs a confident electronic cue, plus 15-second paid-social cut-downs for the UK and Europe. Give the audio team the picture, end-tag timing and media/term assumptions before expecting a usable price.

What happens next

From shortlist to licensed delivery

1. Creative shortlist

We use the picture and brand brief to narrow the music direction. A shortlist is creative, not a guarantee of approval.

2. Rights verification

Identify the recording and composition permissions needed for the intended campaign, including ownership and restrictions.

3. Licensed handover

Approved terms, signed documents and the required audio assets must match the production's actual scope before use.

Advertising music licensing questions

Does a production music track automatically include advertising rights?

No. Check the actual licence, media, territories, term, brand category and any restrictions. Similar-sounding library offerings can have different conditions.

Can a social campaign use the same music as a television commercial?

Possibly, but the permitted media and versions need to be stated in the written licence. Do not assume a TV permission extends to paid social, cinema or later edits.

What if the director only has a reference song?

Use the reference to define the creative direction. Search for suitable licensable material or commission an original composition. A reference recording is not itself cleared.

Can we listen before receiving catalogue access?

Selected public previews may be available, while the full Audio Motion catalogue is available only to approved clients. Send the brief so the team can recommend the right route.
