RELEASE PREPARATION

Clear a sample before the release.

A distributor accepts files and metadata, not the role of a rights holder. Resolve borrowed recording and composition permissions before committing to a release date.

The pre-release timeline

  1. During production: log every sample, source song, timestamp, re-recorded element and any provisional owner information
  2. Before mixing and delivery: separate direct audio samples from interpolations, and map the master and composition questions
  3. Before scheduling: contact controllers with the exact planned use and keep a written response trail
  4. Before distribution: verify agreed fees, shares, territories, versions, artwork and other contract conditions
  5. After approval: preserve executed agreements and reflect required credits and metadata accurately

What if the track is already uploaded?

Uploading to a distributor does not confirm that samples are legally cleared. If a recording is already live, do not represent it as cleared simply because no complaint has arrived. Identify the relevant source and owners, seek professional advice where necessary, and assess any distribution or takedown obligations.

What if the deadline is very close?

Some rights holders need substantial time, especially where several publishers, labels or writers must review a request. An urgent brief should state the exact deadline honestly and include the proposed release plan. No response time or approval can be guaranteed.

Possible alternatives include a new original part, adjusting the arrangement or postponing the release. Any replay of protected composition material still requires its own rights assessment.
